Claudia Valeria Barrantes
Film Production
Claudia Valeria Barrantes is originally from Lima, Perú, and is now based in Berlin, which she considers home. She joined Catalyst in 2023 and currently teaches Production Design seminars within the Bachelor’s second year and the Master’s programme in Trimester B.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Audiovisual Communications completed in Perú, followed by a Master’s in Production Design at the Film University Babelsberg in Germany. She brings several years of experience across different media, with a particular focus on film over the past five years. During this time, she has worked primarily within the Art Department and as a Production Designer.
Alongside her teaching, Claudia remains actively involved in film projects, contributing to development processes as a consultant and offering mentorship in production design. Her expertise spans both the practical and conceptual dimensions of the field, including planning, organisation and budgeting, as well as a broader analytical perspective on cinema through the lens of production design.
She was motivated to join Catalyst by a long-standing interest in teaching and values the opportunity to work within an international environment shaped by diverse perspectives and experiences. Within her teaching, she places particular emphasis on collaboration, openness to debate and hands-on exercises as core elements of the learning process.
Her current interests engage with wider social and cultural questions, including the decolonisation of aesthetics, equality, migration rights, women’s rights, LGBTQI rights and mental health.
